MS Recovery information

I received this today from my friend Sarah who is diagnosed with MS.

Professor George Jelinek was interviewed on three radio shows in the U.S. about the MS recovery program he has researched and authored. May the word spread from sea to shining sea!

Please forward this to anyone you know who might need it (or who might want to interview him).

Lyme disease organizations to merge

By The Tick-Borne Disease Alliance (TBDA) and the Lyme Research Alliance (LRA
Jun 2, 2014 - 5:28:32 AM
The Tick-Borne Disease Alliance (TBDA) and the Lyme Research Alliance (LRA), two of the most influential voices on Lyme and tick-borne diseases, announced over the weekend their intention to merge (the "Merger"). The Merger was approved by each of the respective Board of Directors last evening, pending regulatory approval.

The Merger will result in the formation of the largest tick-borne disease organization in the country, allowing for greater resources to be applied to research on urgently needed improvements in diagnostics and treatments, while maintaining awareness programs for the general public and physicians. The groups plan to rename the merged non-profit upon final completion of the Merger.

Just wanted to invite you to check out my video! In it, I talk about my latest Lyme disease book, "Beyond Lyme Disease" which describes the causes of chronic illness in people with Lyme, besides Borrelia infections. These include: nutrient deficiencies, parasites, mold, adrenal fatigue, hypothyroidism, heavy metal poisoning, and more- as well as solutions for healing. For more information, visit: and

Borreliosis and co-infections aren't always the primary cause of symptoms in people with chronic Lyme disease. In this new book, learn about what's making people with Lyme disease sick, and why these conditions aren't just side effects of having tick-borne infections. Under Our Skin - Watch Free Documentary Online

Watch Under Our Skin for free, online!

Occasionally I repost this freebie link to the excellent, Oscar-nominated documentary Under Our Skin. If you know someone who might want to see this, or you have a friend or family member whom you wish had a better understanding your Lyme journey, then you can easily send them the link.

Under Our Skin

http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/under-our-skin/

In the 1970s, a mysterious and deadly illness began infecting children in a small town in Connecticut. Today it's a global epidemic.

A real-life thriller, this shocking festival hit exposes the controversy surrounding chronic Lyme disease. Following the stories of individuals fighting for their lives, director Andy Abrahams Wilson reveals with beauty and horror a natural world out of balance and a human nature all too willing to put profits before patients.

The film follows six individuals including major league ball player Ben Petrick who report chronic symptoms, which they attribute to persistent Lyme infection. The majority of the film is devoted to the storyline of these patients and their reported recovery.

The film also focuses on state medical board investigations of Joseph Jemsek and Ray Jones, two physicians who prescribe long-term antibiotics for "chronic" Lyme disease.

and Dr Joe Jemsek are interviewed:

It's only 10 minutes long so it's a good, bite-sized chunk to send to a friend who might not be interested in watching, reading or listening to something longer, such as Under Our Skin

The basics are covered here, and the author is very articulate. The interviewer is sympathetic because he had Lyme disease once himself, although it was cured quickly.

As far as I know, this is a novel way for a Lyme patient to write a book, by co-authoring with her LLMD.

Please comment if you have something to add to any of my blog posts. I would love to hear your voice, questions, experiences, and ideas.

Detection of Borrelia burgdorferi DNA in museum specimens of Peromyscus leucopus.

This is an old study (1994) but interesting nonetheless.

Detection of Borrelia burgdorferi DNA in museum specimens of Peromyscus leucopus.

Abstract

To determine whether Borrelia burgdorferi was enzootic within the United States at the beginning of the 20th century, ear skin samples taken from museum specimens of the white-footed mouse (Peromyscus leucopus) were examined for evidence of spirochetal DNA. In total, 280 samples from mice collected between 1870 and 1919 were analyzed by a nested polymerase chain reaction protocol. Of these, 2 specimens from the vicinity of Dennis, Massachusetts, during 1894 were reproducibly positive for B. burgdorferi OspA sequences. The remaining 278, representing both currently endemic and nonendemic sites, were negative for spirochetal DNA. These studies suggest that the agent of Lyme disease was present in a suitable reservoir host in the United States before the turn of the century and provide evidence against a hypothesis of recent introduction of this zoonotic agent to North America.

Mayday rally in VA at IDSA headquarters.

For those interested in media coverage of this event, while there were only 70 in attendance at the Mayday rally in Arlington, VA, it was reported by those in attendance to be a high-quality event with constructive energy and has garnered positive local press in the DC area.

Amber discovery indicates Lyme disease is older than human race

New information from Oregon State University:

Lyme disease is a stealthy, often misdiagnosed disease that was only recognized about 40 years ago, but new discoveries of ticks fossilized in amber show that the bacteria which cause it may have been lurking around for 15 million years -- long before any humans walked on Earth. The findings were made by researchers who studied 15-20 million-year-old amber from the Dominican Republic that offer the oldest fossil evidence ever found of Borrelia, a type of spirochete-like bacteria that to this day causes Lyme disease. Read the rest of the story here:

There's also a discussion going on here:

Fifteen Million-Year-Old Tick Found Carrying Disease Resembling Lyme Disease.

The Los Angeles Times (5/30, Morin) reports recent research published in Historical Biology found a tick trapped 15 million years ago in an amber droplet may have been infected with a bacteria resembling Lyme disease. The tick was found in the present-day Dominican Republic. Of four ticks found, only one appeared to carry the disease, "suggesting that it either inherited the bacteria from its mother or obtained it from an animal it had seized on for a blood meal

The homeopathic treatment of Lyme disease.

From this site:

http://homeopathywritings.wordpress.com/2012/02/11/the-homeopathic-treatment-of-lyme-disease/

The treatment of Lyme disease may be one of the more challenging of diseases for homeopathy to treat. Known to be caused by a spirochete bacteria, Borrelia burgdorfi, it is now known to  be compounded by a number of co-infections including viruses, parasites, fungi and molds and other bacteria. It seems the primary bacteria is able to allow the unleashing of other disease causing factors. Also, in more alternative circles it has been recognized that the underlying constitutional issues of mental/emotional distress, childhood traumas and illnesses, heavy metal toxicity, environmental pollutants and stresses etc all compound the susceptibility to Lyme and the reactive capacity of the organism.
